Just for the Little Ones

LOOK around you. Everything you see is part of the amazing world we live in. Part of the world that God created for us. Have you ever stopped to think how this wonderful world was created? It was made out of nothing. It was made in just six days.

In the beginning God made heaven and earth. But everything was dark and had no shape. So God said, “Let there be light!” And there was light. Then God divided the light from the dark. He made them into evening and morning. And that was how the first day was created.

On the second day God created the sky. He said, “Let there be a sky between the waters!” And it was done. The evening and the morning came; and the second day passed.

The third day came and God said, “Let the waters that are under the sky collect into one place, and let dry land appear.” And so God created the earth and the seas. He then told the earth to grow green grass, trees, fruit and flowers. He told them to bear seeds so that they would multiply. And God saw what he had created and He saw that it was good. Take a look around you. Can you imagine a world without plants?

On the fourth day God created the sun, the moon and all the stars that light up the sky at night. He said, “Let there be lights in the heavens, to divide the night and the day. They shall shine in the sky and spread light over the earth.” And it was done. When you see the millions of stars at night thank God for these beautiful treasures He made for us.

When the fifth day came God said, “Let the waters fill with many, many living creatures, and the skies with flying birds!” And so all the fish in the ocean and the birds in the air were created. Right from the tiniest little bird, to the enormous blue whale. And God saw that it was good. So he said, “ Increase and multiply, and fill the seas, and the air, and the land.”

And so the sixth day arrived, the last day of creation. And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures of all kinds, cattle and creeping things, and wild beasts.” In that way all the living animals were created. There are too many to describe, Just look around you and see for yourself. And then God said, “Let us make man in our own image and likeness.” And so we were created. We were made in the image of God, as man and woman. And God gave us everything we would need for our food, clothing, houses and other necessities. And God looked at all that he had made, and He saw that it was very good.

And so the evening of the sixth day passed and the morning of the seventh day came. The creation of earth was complete, so God rested on that seventh day. And He blessed that day and made it holy. We call that day Sunday. We remember God’s creation on that day by resting and by going to Mass. We must always keep this day holy.
