Dear Friends and Benefactors,
In a few weeks time we are expecting a visit from our Superior General, His Excellency Bishop Fellay. Normally our bishops will visit, even though seldom, in order to confer Confirmation. However, this time around it is not a Confirmation tour but a “Consolation tour”. We seldom see a Superior here let alone the Superior General, and this time it will be a very short visit, he will only have a few week days here and in Harare. Since the Superior General has as his first concern the good of the members of the Society, that is the priests and religious, he will give support to their apostolate which has come under some pressure as of late both in South Africa and Zimbabwe. His Excellency has promised that another Bishop will come at the end of the year for a tour of Confirmations.
Fr. Alessio is also on a tour this month of the Kenyan Missions, and this will be followed by another in June by Fr. Reinartz on his way back to Germany. In Durban, Fr. Wall has had opportunity to practise Zulu and now the Umlazi Mass centre has grown from a mere 14 to 30 to 40 people, now that they know a Zulu speaker is available for confessions they are lining up. In Johannesburg, our own mission in Soweto has not grown over the past year, however as sometimes happens the first foundation is not always the successful one.
The time of Easter is upon us and the joy of Christ’s resurrection is with us. Having followed the rigours of Lent we are now reluctant to give up our penances lest we slide back into tepidity and indifference. Nevertheless let us ask our blessed Mother to help us to contemplate these holy mysteries of our Faith
