Take a deep breath...
After a very odd pregnancy (we thought we were going to lose the baby twice) a tiny 2.2 kg Marcel Josaphat was born on 14th November at 4 p.m. All seemed well but he wouldn’t take his first breath! The midwife said not to panic, some babies take their time. But they started putting tubes down his nose and pumping oxygen into his lungs. Ten minutes later he still hadn’t taken his first breath and everyone was panicking! His heart had practically stopped, he was completely blue and motionless and the midwife was desperately trying to resuscitate him. I kept repeating the Hail Mary and Paul stood ready with water to baptize him. After fifteen minutes he finally took his first breath and we cried with relief. The midwife said he may have had something stuck in his throat but it was very strange that he didn’t even try to take a breath or choke. The midwife (a lapsed Catholic who now claims to say her Rosary again) agrees that Marcel is a little miracle as she didn’t think that he was going to make it. Marcel is now three months old and he is my fattest, healthiest baby yet!
Congratulations to Monica Venables, one of our parishioners in Port Elizabeth who turns 90 on the 5th of this month. Not only has she held on to the Faith during a period of the Church’s life in which many have not, but she also managed to pass it on to the younger generation by her untiring teaching of catechism.
