Sunday, 12th March, Fr. Daniels went to Folweni, close to Isipingo, about
an hour south of Durban. A rather large group of faithful have been gathering
each Sunday in a rented classroom. Having had no priest to help them for
the last four years (although they have gathered here for fifteen years
already), they turned to the Society for help.

What
was my surprise to be called upon and even greater was the surprise of
so many faithful (about 300) who have remained steadfast in the faith
for so long without the sacraments or a shepherd. They received the priest
with an immense joy and begged us to come to their aid.
Certainly,
we cannot abandon them but how shall we help them with so few priests?
Then again, how do we justify serving our existing chapels where so often
we find only lukewarmness and indifference while here and in Zambia souls
are begging us for help with such insistence?

Mgr. Fellay
recently made a short visit to Kenya to bless the new church there.
The mission is growing with a new place visited: Mwanza.
Like many of our rural missions the local wildlife is always a
source of interest.
In the picture opposite you will be able to see the mosquitos
in one of the rooms where the priest stays when he visits...

A
sad goodbye (don’t be fooled by the American smile) from Rev.
Thomas Hufford, formerly of Durban, latterly of Harare, Zimbabwe,
who has been called back to his native land to help with the very
b u s y a n d p o p u l o u s missions there. We wish Fr. Hufford
well in his new apostolate and remember his time with us with much
affection and gratitude. Ave, Frater, atque vale! |
